Before we talk about goals, have you ever stopped to reflect on what having "high performance" means in practice? If we trace the origin of the word, the dictionary offers an interesting explanation: "Performance" is, among other definitions, the set of factors that determine how well something is done. In other words, behind a good result, there are several points to take into account.
Therefore, before thinking about your desired achievements, how about reflecting on the paths that can lead you to them?
Managing personal goals and managing a performance plan don't have to be all that different. First: investment. How much time and money are you willing to dedicate to yourself, or to the objective you have in mind? What are the potential outcomes given that investment?
Second: setting an achievablegoal. To do this, you need self-awareness and a clear understanding of what can actually be done with the resources you have available.
Then comes the time to take a strategic look at this objective and define an action plan. At this stage, it is also important to think about KPIs to measure your progress and make the necessary adjustments.
The SMART method, created by George T. Doran, can help you in this process
S (Specific): no overly broad goals trying to bite off more than you can chew.
M (Measurable): you need a way to track this progress tangibly.
A (Attainable): who will be responsible for achieving this goal? Just you, or is it a team effort?
R (Realistic): remember to factor in everything that needs to be done and what resources you have.
T (Time-bound): setting a deadline is the best way to make the objective a reality.
